Hell, Just Got a Hell of a Lot Bigger

Updated: Dec 17, 2022

Warning: Livia is a PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR, some of the concept art is body horror, and gore. be advised.

The Arius Black team has expanded, We've got an amazing, super talented concept artist, who has redesigned the company logo, as well as started creating concept art for the game as we gear up to create a kickstart campaign this year. As a programmer primarily, I've used the downtime in these summer months to start learning how to create 3D art and to finish the build and design for the First region of the Game, Abbadon, as we hope to release a demo around the Kickstarter launch in abandon. Aside from refactoring Code, my focus for the last month or so has been learning to create game art as quickly as humanly possible, writing the script for cutscenes and dialogue for characters, and recruiting acting talent to voice act the finished Demo. The thought is, that if all the dialogue and scripts are done by the end of July, then the artists can take over recording their part while I switch back to programming, and just give guidance on the voice lines to finalize in time.

If you are intrigued by our progress and want to help ensure the success of Arius Black Studios, Please consider joining the Patreon in the Vision Section of our home page, The contribution enables us to hire more talent, and delegate tasks to more experienced artists and what not, which could dramatically speed up the time of production.

Here Are Some New And upcoming items we've been working on the last few weeks.

1. Creating one Cohesive model for our protagonist, Livia Reddin. Currently, we are using this asset as the player character: Female Knight Bundle 01 | Characters | Unity Asset Store

I HIGHLY recommend this artist, their assets are top-notch, and out of all the character models I've bought in the store, his are the best.

Originally, the plan was to go to release with her as our protagonist, but the story of the game requires a character model that fits in both modern, and medieval-ish settings - meaning we needed one character base mesh with a pretty broad wardrobe selection. Pictured Below is a Progress report on my work creating her first look of the game, the look we see in flashbacks, and the opening cutscene. (I promise, she will have hair when I am done.) Keep in mind this is the first humanoid model I've ever made-(and overall, maybe the fourth thing I've ever made, and the other three were simple things like a wine glass), and I am very, very particular about the art quality of Livia, so it's a slow and meticulous process, but I do feel that with more time and practice, it will come along faster. Once She is completed, the next set of characters to create are listed at the end of this article.

2. Creating custom assets for the Boss-Class of enemies, Known as Legions:

Pictured below is an early rendition of a Leviathan legion, one of the pivotal fights in the first region of the game, Abbadon, and its concept art (Thanks to our brand new artist, Sage Greer). This is one of many large monsters in the game, and our goal by the time of the Kickstarter release (at the end of this year) is to have 2-3 engaging non-human boss fights in the first region of the game, if possible.

3. Creating concept art for other horrors and encounter's in the game, such as this NPC we meet in the tutorial (Sage Greer):

4. Networking and Recruiting

We've been actively scouting voice acting talents for the characters in the game and screenwriting cut scenes in the past few weeks. Teaser audio to come in the future.

5. We've also been re-designing The Band Logo For Twisted Trinket, which is the Band that Livia, our Main Protagonist, is the frontwoman of. This Logo will be given to Kickstarter Backers who fund over a to-be-determined amount in the future, and available for purchase at events in the future that we attend.

6. Designing the rest of the region of Abbadon

The area of the game that has been shown in recent screenshots and gameplay was a sort of tutorial area, and there is much more to the island of abandon than this small corner. I've been hard at work, carefully placing and designing new parts of the map, from a sleepy and abandoned fishing town to a lone warrior atop a mountain, to unground ruins, a complex castle built into the side of a mountain, a manor with a winding and cursed garden surrounding it, and mysterious woods that whisper your darkest memories to you.
