Pivoting Art Direction

Changing the direction of a game can be a daunting task, but sometimes circumstances force us to reassess our original plans and come up with a new approach. That's exactly what happened with our game, " Livia: Heart of Prometheus" , which started out as a souls-like game set in the underworld, but ended up taking a completely different direction.

The reason for the pivot was unexpected - the programmer's computer died, leaving us without the resources to continue with our original plan. But sometimes, adversity can be a blessing in disguise. It gave us time to step back and think about what we really wanted to achieve with the game.

Originally, I, Jade, had envisioned a game set in the future when the protagonist, Livia, comes back to life. However, at the time, I decided to go with a game set in the afterlife because the premade assets that fit that theme were more readily available, and the team at the time was just me, and then it was me and two 2D artists, so we had to make it work with what resources were available online. But with the need to start from scratch aesthetically, it was like a chance to pivot back to my original plan. I rebuilt the game on my MacBook Pro, which while a good computer, there are certain hardware limitations it had in 3D game development that my other computer did not.

And then, to our delight, we were joined by two dedicated 3D artists who were excited to put their skills to the test with a one-of-a-kind 3D game set in the future. This was the perfect opportunity to reimagine our game and take it in a new direction.

Sometimes you need to make the best out of a bad situation, we decided to take the hardware failure as a sign from the universe that gave us "Permission" to chance design philosphies, and fall back to the original game idea I had years ago when I set out to learn game development in the first place.

Now, instead of a game set in the underworld, we have a game set in a futuristic world that's unlike anything you've seen before. With stunning visuals, immersive gameplay, and an engaging storyline, we're confident that our game will be a hit with gamers of all ages. Please be patient as our team creates new visuals for the website for Livia, as the old one's are no longer completely accurate.

As a team we have been using the time that it takes to recuperate and invest in a new machine to make games that fit into the Hardware limitations of each of our team members, Namely Dragon Nurturer, Five Cats in A Trench coat, and Janus, which is our line up for the 2023 year of publications.

In conclusion, changing the direction of a game can be challenging, but it can also lead to unexpected opportunities and new creative possibilities. We're excited to share our new game with the world and can't wait to see how it's received by players. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to develop and refine "Livia: Heart Of Prometheus".
